Sweden has no retirement visa.
Nobody independent says so out loud.

62 channels, accounts, podcasts, references and communities covering life in Sweden in English, every figure checked on 18 September 2026. We went looking for the people explaining how an American, Canadian or Briton over fifty actually moves here, and the central finding is what is missing. The Migration Agency lists fifteen ways to apply for a permit and not one of them is a retirement, pension or independent means route. You can buy a Swedish house with a passport and a birth certificate. Living in it legally is the hard part, and the only sources ranking for that question are law firms and brokers. What Sweden does have is a small, honest set of residents filming the money, and clubs that have been running since 1905.

If you only watch four things

Start here

Four starting points. The channel run by a foreigner who did the paperwork, the German who bought a countryside house and published what it cost, the Stockholm club founded in 1905 that takes any nationality, and the reference page with twenty sections that a foreign government keeps up to date.

Living Swedish

14,700 subscribers and 194 videos. The closest thing Sweden has to a general purpose moving here channel run by an actual foreigner, and the reason it is a starting point is that she covers the unglamorous parts: why people leave Sweden, how Swedes cancel plans without saying so, what five years actually taught her. The video here asks whether the cheap Swedish houses you see online are real.

The American Club of Sweden

The strongest single community entry in Sweden, and read the admission rule rather than the name, because a Briton or a Canadian can join. We verified six dated events in 2026 individually: a reception with the US ambassador in February, a meet and greet at Market Art Fair in April, the AGM and an evening talk in May, an Independence Day picnic in July, and Third Thursday networking evenings in June and August. Daytime and early evening events rather than late ones. The fee is not published on the public site and we will not invent one, so ask before you commit.

Fifteen channels, and the shape of them is the story. Only five are foreigners living in Sweden and publishing in English about the mechanics of it, and one of those five announced in September that he is moving back to Texas. Nothing on YouTube covers Swedish residence permits for a non-EU retiree, because there is no such permit to cover. The only English step by step on getting a personnummer is a government student channel's video from March 2018, which is eight years old and not linked here for that reason. What is left is good: two people who bought houses and published the numbers, a nurse practitioner on the inside of the health system, and the best rural Swedish photography on the internet.

Brandon Cagle NP

Brandon Cagle, an American nurse practitioner and diabetes educator who spent five years working inside the Swedish health system. Sells a paid guide on becoming a nurse in Sweden. He is leaving: a video on 2 September 2026 confirms he is moving back to Texas

7,330 subscribers and 262 videos, publishing several times a month right up to 13 September 2026. Listed despite the departure, and the departure is the reason. He is the only English language insider account of Swedish healthcare we could find in any medium, and a man who gave Sweden five years and then decided to go home is a more useful witness for our readers than somebody in their first enthusiastic year. The video here is him answering the question directly.

Nicole and her partner, Dutch, who left the Netherlands for a property at 63.76 degrees north. They run a bed and breakfast, Airbnb listings and a photography service from the same place, so the property content sells something

4,590 subscribers and 100 videos. The full property tour is the useful one: they put the purchase price on screen, which almost nobody does. Worth watching for anyone whose plan involves cheap land a long way north, because they are honest about the winter, the distance and what breaks.

Three Star Vagabond

Stockholm based, publishing in English. No commercial interest found on the channel

19,400 subscribers and 420 videos, fortnightly. Researches odd and specific questions about Sweden rather than doing lifestyle: whether you can become a Swedish citizen, what Gotland is actually like outside the season, the Viking town at Birka, why Trollhattan makes films. Also runs interviews with immigrants about what moving here was really like, which is the part worth your time.

Sophie Falke, living in the Swedish countryside and publishing in English. Brand work not established either way

14,000 subscribers. Slow rural life filmed well, and one video that earns the listing outright: a full month of spending in the Swedish countryside with the figures on screen. Cost of living for Sweden is otherwise almost entirely content farms, so a real person publishing a real month is worth more than its view count suggests. Last upload 2 September 2026.

Say It In Swedish

Swedish teachers publishing in English. Sells a membership, books and merchandise through sayitinswedish.com, which we state because the channel is the top of that funnel

48,900 subscribers and 209 videos, publishing several times a week. Swedish grammar explained in English for adults, which is a narrower category than it sounds: most Swedish teaching channels teach in Swedish. The long form videos on word order and sentence structure are the ones to start with if you are learning at fifty rather than twenty.

107,000 subscribers and over 1,500 videos, publishing most days. The most prolific Swedish teaching channel there is, built on very short single point lessons. Good for repetition and for vocabulary you will actually hear in a shop, weaker if you want structure. Thirteen new videos in the fortnight we checked.

Jonna Jinton

Jonna Jinton, Swedish, who left Gothenburg at twenty one for a village in Angermanland and has filmed it ever since. Sells her own art, prints and jewellery

5.25 million subscribers and 628 videos, and by a distance the largest audience any Sweden based creator has. Not relocation advice and not pretending to be. What it is good for is the question our readers actually ask before the practical ones: what does a northern Swedish winter feel like, and could you stand it. The kulning and the ice bathing are the famous part; the useful part is the light.

Swedwoods

A Swedish bushcraft and camping channel. Near silent by design, so the language question does not arise

655,000 subscribers and 201 videos. Cinematic solo camping across Swedish forest and winter, filmed without commentary. It is here because allemansratten, the right of public access, is one of the genuine reasons people move to Sweden, and this is the clearest picture anywhere of what that right looks like in practice. Last upload 9 May 2026.

Visit Sweden

The national tourist board, publishing in English. Destination marketing, so treat it as an advert with good production

29,900 subscribers and 408 videos, publishing weekly. Useful to us for the regional road trips rather than the city films: the west coast seafood route and the island series show parts of the country the creator field does not reach at all. Note the handle, because the board uses a different one on Instagram.

Latest video from Sweden (Swedish Institute)Latest: Sigtuna - Sweden's oldest town · 25 August 2026

Sweden (Swedish Institute)

The Swedish Institute, a government agency. State funded and promoting the country, which we state plainly

214,000 subscribers and 353 videos, and the most active official channel by some margin: five uploads in the fortnight we checked. Better than the tourist board for our purposes because it covers how the country works rather than where to go. Voting, social policy, design, language, the old towns. The Sigtuna film is a good first one.

Latest video from Goteborg and GothenburgLatest: Where to eat? Gothenburg! | The hidden gems · 8 September 2026

Goteborg and Gothenburg

Goteborg and Co, the city's official destination company. Destination marketing

2,720 subscribers but six uploads in the fortnight we checked, which makes it the most active city board in Sweden. Small audience, current content. The food and hidden gems films are the ones with something in them for a resident rather than a visitor, and Gothenburg is the city our readers most often short list after Stockholm on cost.

Visit Dalarna

The Dalarna regional tourist board. Destination marketing, and note it publishes in German and Dutch as well as English

21,100 subscribers. Dalarna is the postcard Sweden of red cottages and midsummer poles, and it is also one of the few inland regions with an English language presence of any kind. The highlights film from 10 September 2026 is the current English one. Several of the other recent uploads are in German or Dutch, so check before you click.

Swedish Lapland TV

The Swedish Lapland tourist board, covering all of Norrbotten county. Destination marketing

4,810 subscribers and 179 videos. Arctic and Sami storytelling, and better made than the subscriber count suggests. The Kebnekaise film is about living beneath the mountain rather than climbing it, which is the right register for anyone seriously considering the far north. Slower than the other boards: last upload 11 June 2026.

Instagram and TikTok

Seventeen Instagram accounts and four on TikTok. Seven are named people living in Sweden and posting in English, which is more than Denmark, Austria or Luxembourg managed. The other ten are tourism boards, and they are unusually good here. Two warnings. The account calling itself the official Stockholm tourism board at 847 followers is not it, and we say which one is. And Visit Sweden uses a different handle on TikTok than on Instagram, which is the sort of thing that sends people to the wrong account.

Instagram117,000 followers

Stephen in Sweden

Stephen Lessard, an American in Gothenburg. Bio reads moved for the girl, stayed for the Gifflar. Guests on Swedish podcasts; no affiliate stack found

117,000 followers, read off the profile on 18 September 2026, and the engagement behind that number is the best of any Sweden account we checked by a wide margin. American culture shock observed rather than complained about, plus Gothenburg, ice hockey and food. If you want one account to tell you what daily life with Swedes feels like for a North American, this is it.

Instagram133,000 followers

Manon Galama

Manon Galama, Dutch, a photographer in Stockholm. Sells a Stockholm map and books photoshoots, so the recommendations are a shop window as well as a guide

133,000 followers, read off the profile on 18 September 2026. The most useful Stockholm account on this page: archipelago trips, bike routes, city walks and seasonal guides, all saved into collections you can work through. Note the handle. Her old account at hejhej.stockholm has been abandoned down to a single follower and now just points here, so anyone still linking it is sending you nowhere.

Instagram116,000 followers

Madeline Robson

Madeline Robson, Canadian, whose bio reads Canadian girl making Malmo home. Bookable for brand work through an influencer platform, which we state

116,000 followers, read off the profile on 18 September 2026. The only large account of a North American living in Skane, which matters because Malmo and the south are where our readers land when Stockholm prices them out. Everyday life abroad rather than sightseeing, plus Osterlen, Copenhagen across the bridge, and the food. Also the strongest Sweden account on TikTok, listed below.

Instagram1.6 million followers

Jonna Jinton

Jonna Jinton, the artist in northern Angermanland whose YouTube channel is listed above. Sells her own art and jewellery

1.6 million followers, read off the profile on 18 September 2026, and the largest Sweden based account of any kind we found. Bio reads artist living in the woods in the north of Sweden. Stills rather than film, and the seasonal light in Norrland is the whole point of following it.

Instagram34,700 followers

Katie

Katie, based in Gothenburg, publishing in English. Sells maps and guides through her own shop

34,700 followers, read off the profile on 18 September 2026, with strong engagement for that size. Hiking, spas, camping, cafes and road trips, and her saved guides cover the parts of the west coast the boards skip: Koster, the Gothenburg archipelago, Falkenberg, Lidkoping, Trollhattan. The best practical account for anyone looking at the coast north of Gothenburg.

Lola Akinmade Akerstrom

Lola Akinmade Akerstrom, a Nigerian American author and National Geographic photographer in Stockholm. Sells books and workshops

18,800 followers, read off the profile on 18 September 2026. Small by the standards of this page and the most authoritative voice on it. She wrote LAGOM and Due North and has spent years writing about what it actually feels like to settle in Sweden as a foreigner who will never be mistaken for Swedish. If the social parts of this move worry you more than the paperwork, start here.

Instagram5,644 followers

Uli, Life in Sweden

Uli, the German behind the Living Swedish channel listed above, in Stockholm with her British partner and two daughters

5,644 followers, read off the profile on 18 September 2026. The smallest personal account here and included because the fit is exact: a northern European couple in their adult years doing this move and documenting the ordinary parts of it, in and around Stockholm. Her saved sets run continuously from 2025 to summer 2026, so it is genuinely current.

Instagram459,000 followers

sweden.se

The Swedish Institute, a government agency. State funded country promotion

459,000 followers, read off the profile on 18 September 2026, which makes it the largest official Sweden account. Organised by subject rather than by place: democracy, society, equality, traditions, education, the royal family. More useful than a tourist board if you are trying to understand how the country is put together before you commit to it.

Instagram432,000 followers

Visit Sweden

The national tourist board. Destination marketing

432,000 followers, read off the profile on 18 September 2026, and the bio confirms it is the official account. Nature, food, culture and the seasons across the whole country. Worth following for the regions that have no independent English voice at all, which is most of them once you leave Stockholm, Gothenburg, Skane and Lapland.

Instagram396,000 followers

Visit Stockholm

Stockholm's official business and destination agency, confirmed from the profile itself, which links visitstockholm.com. Destination marketing

396,000 followers, read off the profile on 18 September 2026. Read the handle carefully. A second account spelled with a dot, at 847 followers, also calls itself the official tourism account for the capital of Sweden in its own bio. It is not the board. The real one is this one, and it runs a seasonal question and answer series that is the closest a Swedish board comes to answering residents.

Instagram127,000 followers

Goteborg and Gothenburg

Goteborg and Co, the city's official destination company. Destination marketing

127,000 followers, read off the profile on 18 September 2026, and the strongest city board account in Sweden on engagement. Events, culture, eating and drinking, the archipelago and fika, in English. Gothenburg is the most credible alternative to Stockholm for our readers on cost, and this is the best single window on it.

Instagram116,000 followers

Swedish Lapland

The Swedish Lapland tourist board, covering all of Norrbotten county. Destination marketing

116,000 followers, read off the profile on 18 September 2026. Arctic Sweden through the year rather than through the tourist season, which is the distinction that matters if you are considering living up there. Far better fed than the same board's YouTube channel.

Instagram105,000 followers

Visit Skane

The official account of Skane, Sweden's southernmost region, confirmed from the profile bio. Destination marketing

105,000 followers, read off the profile on 18 September 2026. Skane is flat, mild by Swedish standards, forty minutes from Copenhagen airport and cheaper than Stockholm, which is why it comes up again and again for readers over fifty. Food, art, nature and the towns. Note the underscore in the handle; the account without it is not this one, and visit_skane_ab is the trade account.

Instagram51,800 followers

Visit Dalarna

The Dalarna regional tourist board, confirmed from its own site. Destination marketing

51,800 followers, read off the profile on 18 September 2026. The handle is not the one you would guess: the board's own website links visitdalarnasweden, while plain visitdalarna is its Facebook page. Inland Sweden of red cottages, lakes and midsummer, and one of very few non coastal regions with any English presence.

Instagram20,000 followers

Visit Gotland

Gotland's tourism account, linking the island's official site gotland.com. Destination marketing. Captions are mixed English and Swedish

20,000 followers, read off the profile on 18 September 2026, and the best engagement of any Swedish board account we checked. Gotland is a Baltic island with a walled medieval capital, the longest summer in Sweden and a real year round population, and it comes up often with readers who want an island without leaving the EU. One caution: the ferry operator trades as Destination Gotland and is a transport company, not the board.

Instagram19,400 followers

Visit Varmland

The Varmland regional tourist board. Destination marketing. Captions and story highlights are mainly in Swedish, which we flag because there is no English alternative for this region

19,400 followers, read off the profile on 18 September 2026. Forest, lakes and the Norwegian border, and the cheapest property in southern Sweden by a distance. Listed in Swedish because the alternative was leaving the whole region off the page, which would have been less honest than saying you will need a translate button.

Instagram11,800 followers

Stockholm Archipelago

Part of Visit Stockholm, confirmed in the account's own bio. Destination marketing

11,800 followers, read off the profile on 18 September 2026. Thirty thousand islands an hour from a capital city, and the account runs the Stockholm Archipelago Trail, a marked walking route with its own interactive map. That trail is the single most concrete answer we found to what a fit sixty year old actually does at weekends in Sweden.

Madeline Robson

Madeline Robson, the Canadian in Malmo listed above. Takes paid brand work

Approximately 208,200 followers and 13.3 million likes across 509 videos, from Social Blade on 18 September 2026. The largest Sweden account on TikTok by a distance and the only one run by a North American who lives here. Her handle is the same on both platforms, which is not true of the boards below.

TikTokapprox. 18,500 followers

Visit Sweden

The national tourist board. Destination marketing

Approximately 18,500 followers across 436 videos, from Social Blade on 18 September 2026. Note the handle: the board is visitsweden on Instagram and visitswedenofficial on TikTok, so guessing gets you the wrong account. Short form versions of the regional films.

TikTokapprox. 9,157 followers

Goteborg and Gothenburg

Goteborg and Co, the city's official destination company. Destination marketing

Approximately 9,157 followers and 130,600 likes across 133 videos, from Social Blade on 18 September 2026. Same handle as the Instagram account, which makes it one of the easier ones to find. Food, trams and the archipelago in short form.

TikTokapprox. 8,893 followers

Malmotown

Malmo's city tourism account, trading under the older Malmo Town identity. Destination marketing

Approximately 8,893 followers and 152,300 likes across 216 videos, from Social Blade on 18 September 2026, and growing steadily. This is the only working Malmo board account with an audience. The Instagram handle you will find recommended elsewhere does not exist any more, and the board's current Instagram account has under 500 followers, so for Malmo this is the live one.

Three shows, and that is the whole English language field. We confirmed every date against Apple's own lookup service rather than the Apple Podcasts page, which reports the wrong year for most shows. Behind these three is the largest podcast graveyard we have found anywhere: nine English language Sweden shows have died since 2019, including one that ran to 380 episodes. There is no podcast about moving to Sweden. Sweden in Focus is the closest thing and it is a newsroom's weekly, not a relocation show.

Weekly, and the only serious English language show about Swedish civic life: work and residence permits, citizenship rule changes, tax, property, elections. References and reading

Thirteen entries, and the dates on them are the point. Sweden's own agencies print almost no dates in English: the Migration Agency prints none at all, and neither does Lantmateriet. The pages that do date themselves properly are the social insurance agency in July 2026, the health service in April 2025, and two foreign governments. For the third country running, the best maintained practical English reference about a country is published by somebody else's government.

Migrationsverket: apply for a permit

The Swedish Migration Agency. The authority itself

The page that settles the question, and we counted the categories ourselves on 18 September 2026: fifteen ways to apply, being EU and Nordic citizens, living with someone, work, visiting, study, permanent residence, citizenship, asylum, alien's passports, temporary protection, long term residents in Sweden, long term residents in another EU country, British citizens, Swiss citizens and the repatriation grant. There is no retirement route, no pension route and no independent means route. The page prints no date anywhere in its body.

Migrationsverket: visits longer than 90 days

The Swedish Migration Agency. The authority itself

The page people mistake for the answer. A visitor's residence permit runs to a maximum of six months for an ordinary visitor, requires 700 kronor per day of the visit and medical insurance valid in Sweden, and states in terms that it is valid for one visit only and gives no right to work or to settle. It does not lead to permanent residence. Read it before anyone sells you a Swedish retirement plan built on it. No date printed in the body.

Skatteverket: moving to Sweden from outside the EU

The Swedish Tax Agency. The authority itself

The leaf page with the actual steps, and the one to read rather than the hub above it. You need a valid Swedish residence permit before you can register your move at all. Then an online notification, an identity check booked in person at a service centre, and documents including a residential address with your name on the door or the postbox. No date is printed in the body; the page metadata says 11 February 2026, which we report as metadata rather than dressing it up as a review date.

The Swedish Social Insurance Agency. The authority itself

Last updated 1 July 2026, printed in the page body, which makes it the best dated official English page we found for Sweden. Explains the split that catches people out: some benefits depend on living here and others on working here, and if you are arriving from outside the EU, EEA, UK or Switzerland you need a residence permit from the Migration Agency before you are eligible for anything.

Revision date 1 April 2025, printed on the page. Listed with a warning about what it does not do: it does not set out who is entitled to care and from when, and it does not explain hogkostnadsskydd, the annual cost ceiling that decides what a year of treatment actually costs you. Healthcare entitlement for new arrivals is genuinely undocumented in English, and this is the closest official page to it.

The Swedish mapping, cadastral and land registration authority. The authority itself

The other half of the Sweden problem, and the surprising half. There is no restriction on foreign citizens owning Swedish property. Because the agency holds no personal data for foreign citizens, the only extra requirement is documentary: a passport copy, official proof of identity or a birth certificate showing you are legally competent. The Local Sweden

The Local Europe AB in Stockholm, a subscription news publisher. Named journalists, a paywall, and a business adjacent to ours, all of which we state

The most useful English source on Swedish bureaucracy there is, with standing sections on work permits, residence permits, citizenship, tax, property, renting and pensions. It is journalism rather than a lead funnel, which is why it is here and why the insurance portals are not. Notable for what it has never built: The Local owns the English speaking Sweden audience and has never run a forum, pointing readers at third party boards instead.

Radio Sweden, Sveriges Radio English

Sveriges Radio, the Swedish public broadcaster. Publicly funded, no commercial interest

A weekday news brief and a weekly half hour programme in English, and a genuine trap worth knowing about. Sveriges Radio has withdrawn its podcasts from Apple and Spotify outside the EEA, so if you are in the United States or Canada you cannot subscribe to this in the app you normally use. It is alive and daily on its own site and app. Nobody else explains why it appears dead from North America.

Watching the Swedes

Neil Shipley, named on his own about page and independently verifiable as the author of Culture Smart's Sweden guide. No affiliate stack found; hosted on WordPress.com

Sixteen years of continuous writing about Swedish habits, language and social rules, with the latest post on 28 June 2026. The best cultural writing about Sweden by a foreigner, and light on process by design. We checked the domain specifically for the expired domain takeover pattern that has swallowed old expat blogs elsewhere. It is clean.

Hej Sweden

Matthias Kamann, German, who came as an exchange student and stayed, named openly on his about page and the author of How to be Swedish. States that he writes everything himself and takes no guest posts. Links his own book on Amazon

A long practical archive on Swedish customs, language, food and the small rules nobody tells you. One weakness we will state: the index does not surface post dates, so you cannot easily tell how old a given page is. Worth reading for the cultural explanations rather than for anything regulatory.

Swedish Nomad

Alex Waltner, a Swedish travel writer and photographer based in Helsingborg, named throughout the site. He sells sponsored posts and destination marketing through a work with me page, so treat the recommendations accordingly

A large English language travel archive on Sweden by a Swede, which is rarer than it sounds and useful for the regions nobody else covers. We list the website rather than the Instagram account deliberately: as of 18 September 2026 that account's bio and links have switched to Swedish and now point at the Swedish version of the site, so it is no longer an English language account.

Communities and clubs

Nine, and read the joining rules rather than the names. The American Club of Sweden dates from 1905 and takes any nationality; the English speaking Rotary club in Stockholm meets every Thursday at a fixed address. Four of the nine are open to men and women. There is no Reddit card and no Facebook card on this page, and the reasons are in the method note at the bottom. The honest warning: there is no organisation anywhere in Sweden for older English speaking residents, and the two Swedish pensioners' organisations that would take you operate in Swedish.

CommunityFee not published

The American Club of Sweden

Founded 1905 and one of the oldest American organisations in Europe. Membership handled through its own portal. No nationality bar, no gender bar, no age bar: it describes itself as a community for all interested in connections between the United States and Sweden and explicitly welcomes Americans, Swedes and other nationalities

Rotary Club of Stockholm International

A Rotary International club in District 2355, and Stockholm's only English speaking Rotary club. Open to men and women, no nationality bar. Visiting Rotarians are welcome without joining, which makes it easy to try on a scouting trip

Meets every Thursday from 18:00 to 19:30 at Hotel Hellsten on Luntmakargatan, which is the most concrete standing commitment any English language body in Sweden offers. We confirmed a dated 2026 programme including meetings on 10 and 17 September and 1 October, and the AGM and Christmas dinner on 9 and 10 December 2026. Demographically the oldest room on this page, and the clearest answer we found for a man arriving in Stockholm knowing nobody. The fee is not published.

International Women's Club of Gothenburg

Founded 1970 and explicitly an independent, nonpolitical, nonprofit social organisation, which is more than most state. Open to women of all ages who are foreign to Sweden, Swedish women married to a foreigner, and Swedish women returning after time abroad. Women only

Self reports 120 plus members from 25 plus cultures and ten to fourteen organised activities every month, with September and October 2026 calendars published on its own homepage. That is a genuinely busy club and the figure comes from the club rather than from a listicle. The best proven activity level of any association we found in Sweden. The fee is not published.

Community700 kronor a year, 600 to renew

International Women's Club of Stockholm

Founded 1961. Open to English speaking women not originally of Swedish nationality, to Swedish women who lived abroad five or more consecutive years and returned within the last three, and to Swedish diplomats representing other countries. Women only, no age bar

The only club in Sweden that publishes a full fee schedule, which is why the number is here: 700 kronor a year for a new member, 600 to renew and 450 for non resident membership without voting rights. There is no senior rate. Worth knowing before you apply: it is not an instant sign up. You have a coffee meeting with a prospective member contact first and the executive board approves the application. No dated 2026 event is published on the public pages, so the activity level is less proven than Gothenburg's.

American International Club Malmo

Founded 1997 as the American Women's Club Malmo, since renamed and opened up. Has a written constitution and is affiliated to FAWCO. The current constitutional text aims to bring together Americans and other international expats resident in Sweden, with no gender, nationality or age bar stated

The only English language association covering Skane and Malmo, which is the region our readers most often short list after Stockholm and Gothenburg. Recurring annual programme of an Easter egg hunt, a Fourth of July barbecue and a Thanksgiving potluck. Two honest caveats: no dated 2026 item could be retrieved, and the FAWCO parentage means the membership is likely still mostly women despite the open rules. No named contact is published and the fee is not either, so email before you plan around it.

Democrats Abroad Sweden

The official overseas arm of the United States Democratic Party. Open to US citizens abroad, free to join, no age or gender bar. Partisan by definition, which is the reason for this line, and we found no comparable Republicans Overseas presence in Sweden to set beside it

Listed for one practical reason: it is the only free, no application, in person, mixed gender social network that runs in three parts of Sweden at once, with chapters in Stockholm and Uppsala, western Sweden around Gothenburg, and Skane. The dated 2026 programme is the densest of anything we checked, including after work evenings at named pubs in Lund and Gothenburg in late September and Pride events in Lund and Uppsala. The pub meet ups are social rather than political, whatever you make of the politics.

St Peter and St Sigfrid, Stockholm

The Anglican Episcopal chaplaincy in Stockholm, part of the Church of England Diocese in Europe. Anyone may attend, free, no membership and no application

Included for a detail nobody else in Sweden publishes: the diocese listing records ramped access, accessible facilities and dementia aware services alongside the usual Bible study and concerts. It is the only English language body we found in the country that has visibly thought about old age at all. Services are dated and current, with morning prayer, eucharist and compline on Sunday 20 September 2026. Named role contact and a telephone number on the site.

St Andrew's Church, Gothenburg

An Anglican congregation in Gothenburg, services in English. Anyone may attend, free. Named email and telephone contact and a street address on Norra Liden

The Gothenburg counterpart to the Stockholm chaplaincy, and the west coast has little else in English that costs nothing and needs no application. Sunday services and Sunday school at 10:45. The evidence is weaker than Stockholm's: the site publishes no dated 2026 event and is thin in places, so telephone before you travel across town for it.

British Expats: Scandinavia forum

Operated by MH Sub I, LLC trading as Internet Brands, a named corporate operator. Free to join

The best British specific written archive on Sweden, with recent threads on Swedish healthcare insurance, importing a car and post Brexit passport questions. Listed with the honest caveat rather than the flattering description: the whole Scandinavia section holds around 358 threads and the newest we could see was dated July 2025. It is a slow archive to search, not a live conversation. That is still more than Sweden has anywhere else, because there is no Swedish equivalent of Toytown Germany and no Discourse board about Sweden at all.

How this list was made

We searched YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Apple Podcasts, the Swedish club directories and the Swedish government's own English sites for English language sources about moving to and living in Sweden, then kept the ones with a real audience and evidence they are still publishing. We favoured people who live here over people who visited, and material aimed at adults planning a permanent move. Anything with no upload or post in twelve months was dropped. Sweden has a healthy supply of atmosphere and language teaching and almost nothing on the practical layer, and this page reflects that rather than padding it.

Audience figures. Every YouTube subscriber count was read off the channel's own page on 18 September 2026 and every Instagram follower count off the profile itself on the same day. Every video shown was confirmed by YouTube's oEmbed service to belong to the channel named, and all fifteen passed first time. Upload dates come from each channel's official feed and are exact. The four TikTok follower counts are Social Blade approximations, because TikTok is the one platform we cannot read directly. Where Social Blade and the platform overlapped they matched exactly on every channel we checked, which is now seven builds of agreement.

Podcast dates. Every episode count and date came from Apple's own lookup service, not the Apple Podcasts page, which reports the wrong year for most shows. Three English language shows about Sweden are alive. Nine have died since 2019, including one that reached 380 episodes, and several of the dead ones still rank well in search, so check the date before you subscribe to anything we have not listed.

What is not on this page, and why. There is no Reddit card: reddit.com has been unreachable from our tooling for five consecutive builds, at the search index level as well as the fetch level, so we could not confirm that any Swedish subreddit exists, let alone read a member count, and we do not publish numbers we have not seen. There is no Facebook card either. Swedish expat groups plainly exist, but no member figure for any of them is attributable to a dated source from the last eighteen months, and every figure in circulation traces back to undated aggregator pages.

What we rejected. Three YouTube channels created within four weeks of each other in January and February 2026, all Sweden expat, all publishing over a hundred videos in seven months under a first name with no website and no other platform. One of them published the same video title five days running with the punctuation changed. One of the three is built to look exactly like our reader, a Briton who retired to rural Sweden in his sixties, which is why we are naming the pattern rather than the channel. We also left off a podcast network that publishes format identical travel shows for a hundred countries with invented local hosts, and the unsigned cost of living sites that dominate the Swedish search results. Nothing on this page is paid placement and we take no fee from anyone listed.

Corrections we made in the browser, because the searchable data was wrong. One large Instagram account recommended to us no longer exists at all. One had been abandoned to a single follower and now points at a new handle. One Swedish account had switched from English to Swedish. Two YouTube channels had left the country, one for the French Alps and one for the United States, while their subscriber counts still looked healthy. An account calling itself the official Stockholm tourism board turned out to have 847 followers and not be the board. Every domain listed here was opened and checked for the expired domain takeover pattern, and none was contaminated.
